What is Svitlo school?

Svitlo means ‘light’ and we bring this through a free, extracurricular online school in English. Svitlo School is a registered charity in England and Wales, and we equip students with:

  1. Excellent language skills through high quality academic and social lessons in English
  2. Educational opportunities like scholarships and free summer school placements in the UK and USA
  3. A safe, stable community where they can enjoy new friendships and experience a sense of belonging
  • - Lessons' set up, timings and technical side.
  • - Is there a curriculum?
  • - What support is in place for volunteers?
  • - Can the war be discussed? What can I or cannot ask?
  • - Will language be an issue ?
  • - I don't want to commit for long what are the options?
  • - What about cultural differences?

In preparation for the webinar we asked our current volunteers to share their thoughts:

- They may worry about time commitment but reassure they can commit to as little or as much as possible.
- They may worry about time to prepare sessions, but again the students appreciate everything so much so you can have an equally good lesson without lots of preparation.
- The freedom to cover topics that the students are interested in rather than having to stick to a rigid curriculum.
- You get back way more than you put in! ❤️

Helen Reid.

In my thirty years of teaching and leading schools and boarding houses in the UK and overseas, I can honestly say these are the most impressive students I have ever had the privilege to work with. You are doing something truly extraordinary in giving these wonderful young people the chance to grow, learn, and connect in this way.

Gerry Young, science teacher
