For the past three years, Svitlo School has been fortunate to receive support from International Summer Schools in both the UK and US. These fully funded, two/three-week programs provide Svitlo Students with invaluable opportunities to strengthen their English language skills, immerse themselves in new cultural experiences, and develop lasting international connections. Beyond academics, these programs foster confidence, independence, and global outlook - empowering the next generation of social, business, and global leaders.

Personal Development

Throughout the war, many of the Svitlo Students live under constant threat and instability, yet they have remained dedicated to their learning. Spending two weeks in a peaceful and supportive environment with a routine, safe accommodation, and away from constant worry is an essential opportunity for the students to recharge.

In this new setting, surrounded by new people and practising English in varied social contexts, students strengthen essential soft skills such as communication, adaptability, and confidence. Their success at Summer School, beyond the constraints of the war, is a testament to their own resilience and renews a sense of hope.

 Academic Growth

Svitlo’s Summer School partners provide students with the opportunity to engage more deeply with academic subjects while fully immersing themselves in the English Language. Since each Summer School offers a distinct programme, students can apply to the one that best aligns to their academic interests and supports their enrichment and growth.

Preparation for the Future

The curated and multifaceted Summer School programmes provide a sense of direction towards future goals for the Svitlo Students, while also equipping them with specialised skills through selected classes and activities.

By building confidence in a new social context, students gain valuable insight into what the transition to university as independent learners may entail. In addition, the Summer Schools connect the students with new mentors and peers who can provide ongoing support in their academic journeys and future career paths.

 Community and Connection

For Svitlo students, travelling to the UK is the first opportunity to meet their peers and teachers in person rather than online. Experiencing this support network and teacher mentorship face to face reinforces the strong sense of community within Svitlo School. By engaging in both learning and activities in a balanced programme, students not only share in the experience together but also build lasting friendships. As well as making new international friends at times when there are no foreigners in Ukraine due to the war.

What’s more, many of the students also volunteer in various Svitlo School initiatives, such as serving as assistant TAs, members of the Student Council, or participating in Reading Buddies. By sharing the knowledge and experience gained, they inspire younger students and help strengthen Svitlo’s community across all year groups.

Global Perspectives

For some Svitlo Students, the Summer School is their first opportunity to travel outside of Ukraine. Through a balanced programme of academics and activities, they develop intercultural understanding and broaden their worldviews.

Svitlo School’s mission is to empower the future political, social, and business leaders of Ukraine. By gaining firsthand global perspectives, the students can return home to Ukraine equipped to share their knowledge, inspire others, and contribute to shaping Ukraine’s future.

The Svitlo Summer School 2025 Report presents students’ reflections on their Summer School experiences. This highlights the ongoing value these opportunities bring, both to their personal development and to their continued journey within the Svitlo School community.
